20 Mile Bronx to Battery Park Hike Route
  1. Start at W 231st St and Broadway in the Bronx.
  2. Head south on Broadway, 6 blocks to the Broadway Bridge.
  3. Cross the Broadway Bridge.  S on Broadway.
  4. Head west on 218th St into the north end of Inwood Hill Park.
  5. Visit Shorakoppoch, the site where the Dutch "bought" Manhattan from the Native Americans (according to the Native Americans, buying and selling land wasn't part of their culture, and they had no idea they were selling anything).
  6. Out of the south end of Inwood Hill Park.  Go straight past Dyckman St to the corner of Riverside Dr, there is Anne Loftus playground.
  7. Rest room break at Anne Loftus Playground and we will wait there until 10:30am for latecomers.
  8. Bathroom break at Anne Loftus Playground until 10:30 am to wait for latecomers.
  9. Down Payson Ave into Fort Tryon Park.
  10. Out of Fort Tryon Park on Fort Washington Ave.  Continue to 181St.
  11. Turn West on 181 St until it dead ends.
  12. North on Riverside Dr about 200 yards until the bridge.
  13. Take the bridge over the highway.
  14. Follow the foot path south under the George Washington Bridge.  Visit the Red Lighthouse.
  15. Down the shore of the Hudson to the restrooms at 148th St.  Rest room break.
  16. Down the shore of the Hudson a short distance to 145th St and Riverbank State Park.
  17. Climb 5 flights of stairs or take the elevator (if it works) up to Riverbank State Park.
  18. At Riverbank State Park, everyone orders their lunch from the organizer who orders it for pickup at a Deli along the way, and pays the organizer.
  19. Out of Riverbank State Park at 138th St.
  20. Down Riverside Dr, over 125th St to the next park, into the park.
  21. Stop at General / President Grant's tomb.
  22. East across the street to Sakura Park (112nd St & Riverside Dr) to an area with 80 seats of park benches where we will be eating lunch. The organizer will go a couple of blocks to the Olive Tree Deli at 120th St & Broadway to pick up everyone's food and bring it back.

  25. After lunch, head east on 122nd Street until we reach Morningside Park, go into the park, then south to the southeast corner of the park at 110th St.
  26. 110th St east one block to Central Park. Into Central Park.
  27. Across to the east side of Central Park, down the SE corner of Central Park by the Plaza Hotel.
  28. South on Fifth Ave from 60th St to 26th St.
  29. Into NE corner of Madison Square Park, through the park, out the SW corner.
  30. South on 5th Avenue to Washington Square Park.
  31. Under the arch in the park, down to the southern side, restroom break.
  32. Out the NE corner of the park onto Waverly Place, east on Waverly to Broadway.
  33. Noth on Broadway to Astor Pl, east on Astor place and across Lafayette to the square, spin the cube.
  34. East on 8th St to 3rd Ave, cross 3rd, 8th St becomes St. Marks Place.
  35. East a block on St. Marks Place to 2nd Ave.
  36. South on 2nd to Houston, cross Houston.
  37. South through Sara D Roosevelt Park to the end.
  38. West on Canal St until after crossing Bowery.
  39. South on Bowery to Bayard St. West on Bayard to Mulberry.
  40. Into Columbus Park, exit the park at Baxter & Hogan.
  41. South on Baxter to Worth.
  42. West on Worth into Thomas Paine Park. Exit the park crossing Centre St.
  43. South on Centre St to City Hall Park.
  44. Through City Hall Park, past the fountain, to Broaday.
  45. Cross Broadway.
  46. South on Broadway to Fulton.
  47. West on Fulton to Church.
  48. South 1/2 block on Church and enter WTC mall.
  49. Walk west through mall, under the Freedom Tower.
  50. Bathroom break at Brookfield Place.
  51. Out east end of Brookfield Place.
  52. South to Pumphouse Park.
  53. Visit piece of Berlin Wall.
  54. Take show of hands for how many will have dinner, call restaurant. probably 45 minutes away at that point.
  55. West to shore, south on Battery Park City Esplanade.
  56. Reach South Cove Park, go east on 3rd Place to Battery Place.
  57. South on Battery Place to Battery Park.
  58. Walk around the east side of Fort Clinton.
  59. Stand at the shoreline by the WWII memorial. Group picture with Statue of Liberty in the background.
  60. Through Battery Park to Staten Island Ferry. Up to upper level, final group picture.
  61. Continue on 4 blocks to a BBQ restaurant that does separate checks for dinner.
