- Introductions --
GK will introduce CCL in general. Each CCL’er to
introduce himself briefly. Staffer Nicole Nentwich to introduce
herself.
- Appreciations -
- Our proposed Key Points
(after each point, ask for some feedback, to get
conversation going):
- As Conservatives we are concerned
that GOP is losing voters, esp young GOP voters, over climate
change. (Do you see indications of this? What
do you think?)
- This issue, and public sentiment, is
only going to intensify over time. (What
do you see in the future?)
- GOP needs to come out with a
significant, effective climate solution that exemplifies
Conservative values – Effective, pragmatic, taps the free market
(instead of big govt and regulations) to solve a big problem,
and stimulates innovation and individual
choices (What are your criteria for
a climate response?)
- GOP support for R&D and
technology innovation is a step in the right direction – but new
technologies have to succeed in the marketplace – and setting a
price on carbon will make that possible. Business entrepreneurs
and inventors will “win” only if the economics work – and as
long as carbon emissions are “free,” low-carbon technologies
have to compete unfairly, with their hands tied.
(What do you think?)
- Carbon pricing goes hand in hand with
R&D and technology solutions. (Your
thoughts?)
- A carbon price will unleash new
technologies – American technologies – that grow jobs, stimulate
the economy, and give American businesses a leg up in the
growing world market for low-carbon products. (Is
this a win-win for the GOP and America or what?!?)
- OUR ASK: Work
behind the scenes with other GOP Congressman to build a
coalition to support HR 763 – and come out together in support
of HR 763.
